Barry Scott is new to Youth Action Coalition and is serving as Program Coordinator for E’town Photograffiti.
What inspires Barry about E’town and YAC is the rare opportunity to mix together digital photography, computer processing, exploratory writing, and social justice activity while cultivating self-expression, leadership and a sense of community all in one program.
Before YAC Barry was a freelance photo assistant in New York City, a sponsored skateboarder, a political activist, a portrait and wedding photographer, an Apple Computer Specialist and Creative, a movie theatre usher, security guard and a dishwasher among an array of other jobs and experiences. He graduated from the Hallmark Institute of Photography after high school, returned to Holyoke Community College eight years later to study philosophy and political science, and recently received his Bachelor’s degree in sociology from Amherst College. Artistically he is most inspired by the street artists Banksy and Shepard Fairey, as well as slam poets, skateboarders, punk rock and hip-hop. The most precious thing Barry owns is “me”, because he works hard to keep his mind and body free, healthy, and happy. His favorite movies are Waking Life and Slam.
